The Herald Building

Remarks: The El Paso Herald occupied an older building on this site, which is now the site of the shops adjacent to the Plaza Theater. It is not possible to tell from the drawing what building materials were intended. Since the building was designed to harmonize with the McCoy Hotel (seen right in the Luhrs drawing), it is likely that the outer walls would be finished similarly in exposed concrete. The Hoyt Furniture Company building  is seen to the immediate left of the proposed Herald Building.
Photographs in the Luhrs Collection are from the files of George N. Luhrs, client for the Luhrs Tower and Luhrs (office) Building, Phoenix, Arizona, and it is presumed that they were sent to him as proposals for these buildings.

Prepared for the El Paso Public Library by Lloyd C. and June F. Engelbrecht under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, 1990
