Melrose High School - Trost Society

Melrose High School

The Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper from 07/02/1924 (page 4) announced that a new $30,000 High School was to have been built in Melrose, New Mexico. In the book by Don McAlavy and Harold Kilmer, “High Plains History of East Central New Mexico” (High Plains Historical Press, 1980), the school is pictured, and visually resembles typical School designs from the firm of Trost & Trost, according to researchers Lloyd C. and June F. Engelbrecht. The building was demolished only 18 years later (in 1942) when a new High School was erected with New Deal funds, according to the Living New Deal website at https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/school-melrose-nm/.
