J.M. Ormsby Residence - Trost Society

J.M. Ormsby Residence

The J.M. Ormsby Residence was built in 1899, and we believe that it was the first Henry C. Trost commission in what we would define as the Southwest, and in Tucson in particular. He had drawn plans for the Colorado Springs, CO County Hospital while in the firm of Weston & Trost (Pueblo) just the previous year. Trost began a blitz campaign of newspaper ads in Tucson’s Arizona Daily Star in May of 1899, and the announcement that he would be drawing the plans for the Ormsby were announced the same month. The address, 204 South Stone, is now just a parking lot between two buildings; but what a historical spot it is.
