R.E. Thomason Hospital Additions

El Paso’s City-County Hospital, known as the R.E. Thomason General Hospital since 1915, was remodeled and expanded in circa 1934-1935, with the reno designed by Trost & Trost. An operating room was added with sterilization equipment, and the facility was expanded to 204 beds. This Hospital building was demolished and was the predecessor to today’s University Medical Center. built at the same location. The 1934 project was the culmination of a number of Bond Issues, planning, and Government Red Taping that occurred during the previous several years.
