In 1909, Mrs. Zeno B. Clardy asked for plans from the firm of Trost & Trost to erect a 5 story building at the corner of San Antonio and Broadway (today’s Mesa St.). Clardy, a very influential political and social figure of the day, was unable to purchase the land, located on the northwest corner where the famous Acme Saloon had stood. She did, however, erect a two-story structure one block to the south, and it is believed by some historical enthusiasts that Trost designed that building, although we lack documentary evidence.
